In their song ‘Mad World’ (which is referenced in my creative response as well), shows the pessimism “The dreams in which i’m dying are the best i’ve ever had” and the satire “bright and early for their daily races, going nowhere”. Tears for Fears was a band during the 80s that created some great songs showing their feelings and quite pessimistic but almost satirical views of the world. Everyone had materialistic values and forgot about everything else. The entire song shows how no one was original and everyone was working towards the same goal: Success. One of the quotes added that showed how much society valued and wanted success was a lyrics from a Tears for Fears song “Everybody wants to rule the world”. I got some of this insight from my Mum as she grew up in the 80s and felt the pressure as a teen to be successful.
Being a teenager during the 80s would have been stressful because of all this pressure from other teenagers and parents. I try and include the feelings of teenagers at the time (as I am a teenager and can most relate to teenagers then). There were, of course, rebels during this time that fought against these values and beliefs of the …show more content… I include many different types throughout my creative piece for example, people during the 80s valued success and popularity. The adults would have had great expectations for the youth at the time that did not match up with the values and attitudes of the adolescents. Since the adults of the time grew up during the 40s, 50s and 60s, they had different values to the opinions of the teenagers during the 80s. This shows how some teenagers during the 1980s thought, specifically of their elders. For more quotes I went through the 80s movies and picked out a few that showed insight into minds of teenagers like “When you grow up, your heart dies” (Ally, The Breakfast Club). The first quote challenges the thoughts of religion, because most social values somehow derive from religious morals. I found two quotes and they were “People make the rules of society, not god.” and “Never would I become so dependent on a man I couldn’t make my way in the world” (pg 103).
One of those ideas was to find some quotes within the actual book that relate to social values of the time to highlight. With the Images and quotes that are included within the pages of the book I started off with a few ideas.
My research included typical internet searches which was my biggest source of information, but I also got a lot of information and thoughts on the 80s from people who experienced …show more content… Although I didn’t like the idea of ruining a book that someone had put effort into writing, I payed for it, and I don’t know how it would have turned out otherwise. Also, because my main chosen topic to focus on is music, I did lots of research on popular music of the time and new instruments being introduced. This includes doing extensive research in finding out what the social values were at the time and the opinions of people at the time, especially young people. I did plenty of research to ensure the creative task was accurate and relevant to the 1980s. I saw a picture of someone creating art in a book and I thought i’d give it a go. Show More I got this idea for the creative response from some pictures I saw on a website called Tumblr.
